The Hanover Area Breast Cancer Support Group (HABCSG) was started in 1990 by Hanover resident Jane Rice. At that time, when Jane was traveling through her own journey with breast cancer, she had no one to turn to for support or encouragement. Women did not know how to talk about their experiences, and even if they wanted to, they did not know where to go to meet other women in similar situations. Jane made it her mission to change that. She provided a meeting place, a listening ear, and a shoulder to lean on for other area women going through cancer. She has personally visited with and helped hundreds of women understand their diagnosis, navigate their treatment options, and learn how to live as a cancer survivor. Jane has facilitated this group since its inception and continues in this role today. Merrily Jones, a breast cancer survivor was her co-facilitator for several years until she relocated from the area. Diana Klunk, a breast cancer survivor since December 28, 2006 is the group’s current co-facilitator. From the beginning, the Hanover Area Breast Cancer Support Group has provided hundreds of women with the comfort of knowing that other women have walked in their shoes and survived, that there are friends to lean on when you need those extra words of encouragement, and that there IS life after breast cancer! Whether you have just been diagnosed with breast cancer, or if you have been a survivor for many years, please join this diverse group of women and share in the knowledge, experience, love and support that the Hanover Area Breast Cancer Support Group provides.
